"Ever been out shopping and you turn around to discover your toddler has disappeared?

We all remember James Bolger being abducted from a shopping mall in the UK years ago and as a parent of a 3 yr old, the memory of that story rang true when I was out in the Christmas crowds doing last minute shopping last week.

I was in Robin’s Kitchen at Toombul casually talking to the saleslady (with 8 month old Alec sleeping in the stroller). For a moment I had to interrupt her to look downward for Savannah. She wasn’t there. My heart skipped a few beats because it is very rare for her not to be near me, let alone not even in the same store as me! SHE WAS GONE!

Having recalled noticing a suspicious looking character watching us earlier, all kinds of evil thoughts ran through my head. Panic set in and I created quite a frantic scene calling for someone to call the police and screaming out "Savannah! Where are you????" In tears I ran around searching for her, shaking with nerves and yelling her name. At last a woman pointed out a little girl to me (2 shops away mind you) and I had no choice but to leave baby Alec in the stroller at Robin’s while I ran to scoop her up in my arms. I ran back to Robin’s with her and just collapsed on the floor hugging her. Thank God, thank God she is safe. It could have turned out much worse.

It was the worst 3 or 4 minutes of my life and I never want to go through that again!

Please identify your kids while out in public places.

Kids are unpredictable and so are the strangers around you.

"Oh Jenny, I was going to let you know what happened to our son (and us) a month ago.

We lost our son at Fox Studios! We were at Lollipops Playland and someone let him out of the gate. Someone in Kid Central found him in the play area and saw that he had an ID band. They called us 10 minutes later (a looooong a**e 10 minutes).

If he hadn’t had the band on, we would never have found him in that shop because we wouldn’t have looked there. His speech isn’t great so he can’t even say his last name, and we’ve just moved so he doesn’t know his address.

So I’m very glad I bought that band!"
